Power Extensions

Choosing a Power Extension in Kenya

A power extension allows several electrical devices to share one wall socket while providing a longer cable for more convenient placement.

Power extensions are commonly used with televisions, computers, monitors, printers, routers, phone chargers, gaming consoles and other home or office electronics. Models range from basic three-way and four-way extensions to larger power strips with six or ten sockets, USB charging ports and surge protection.

When comparing power extensions in Kenya, check:

  • Number of AC sockets
  • Maximum power and current rating
  • Cable length
  • Plug type
  • USB-A and USB-C charging ports
  • Surge-protection capability
  • Individual or master power switches
  • Socket spacing
  • Build quality
  • Warranty
  • Whether the product is intended for light electronics or higher-power appliances

Most Kenyan wall sockets use the British Type G plug. Confirm that both the extension plug and its sockets are suitable for your equipment.

A higher number of sockets does not automatically mean that more high-power appliances can be used simultaneously. The total connected load must remain below the power strip’s stated wattage and current rating. Avoid connecting appliances such as heaters, cookers, kettles or irons unless the extension is specifically rated for that load.
